Samsung Wallet Introduces Digital Home Key with Aliro Standard at MWC 2026

Samsung announced a significant update to its digital ecosystem at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026: Digital Home Key support for Samsung Wallet, driven by the new Aliro standard. Users of Galaxy smartphones can now open compatible smart door locks straight from their phones thanks to this innovation, which improves everyday convenience, security, and smart home integration.

What Is the Digital Home Key in Samsung Wallet?

With this latest update, Samsung Wallet now supports both Digital Car Keys and Digital Home Keys, turning Galaxy devices into secure, all-in-one digital access tools. Once a Matter-compatible smart lock is added to the SmartThings app, its Digital Home Key is automatically stored in Samsung Wallet.

Depending on the lock’s capabilities, users can unlock their doors in two seamless ways:

  • NFC (Near Field Communication): Simply tap your Galaxy phone on the smart lock.
  • UWB (Ultra Wideband): Unlock the door by bringing your phone close to it—no physical tap required.

This flexibility ensures that users can enjoy a smooth, contactless entry experience tailored to their device and lock technology.

Powered by the Aliro Standard for Enhanced Smart Lock Security

The Digital Home Key feature is built on the Aliro standard, developed by the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA). Aliro was specifically designed to create a unified, secure framework for smart door lock access across devices and brands. Samsung, as a founding CSA member, has played a key role in shaping this standard.

Security remains at the forefront of this update. Digital Home Key credentials are safeguarded by Samsung Knox, Samsung’s defense-grade security platform. The system also aligns with the EAL6+ certification standard, widely recognized for use in high-security environments. This ensures encrypted protection of user credentials and prevents unauthorized access.

Compatible Smart Lock Brands and Rollout Details

Samsung confirmed that compatible smart locks from brands like Aqara, Nuki, Schlage, and Xthings will support unlocking via Samsung Wallet on Galaxy smartphones.

The feature will begin rolling out later this month in select markets through an update to the Samsung Wallet app.

According to Woncheol Chai, Executive Vice President and Head of the Digital Wallet Team at Samsung Mobile eXperience (MX), the company remains committed to delivering trusted and secure mobile experiences. With Digital Home Key integration, Samsung extends the same reliability and ease of use users expect from their digital wallets to their homes.

As smart home technology continues to evolve, Samsung Wallet’s Digital Home Key marks a significant step toward a truly connected, secure, and keyless future.
