Prismatica Light Installation Lights Up The Shipyards in North Vancouver
As the Prismatica light installation comes at The Shipyards, the North Shore shoreline is transformed into a dynamic and engaging artistic experience. This internationally acclaimed public art exhibit offers guests a singular visual experience along the waterfront by bringing brilliant color, movement, and light to the Burrard Dry Dock Pier.
Running from March 7 to April 1, 2026, the installation is free and open to the public, inviting residents and visitors alike to explore a stunning fusion of art, technology, and community interaction.
A Spectacular Interactive Light Experience
Prismatica is a completely interactive art installation intended to captivate people of all ages, not merely a visual exhibit. Twenty-five huge pivoting prisms, each about seven feet six inches tall, are on display. A unique reflective material that distributes rainbow colors and refracts light covers these eye-catching towers.
Depending on the angle of light and the viewpoint of the observer, the buildings’ color patterns change as sunlight strikes them during the day. The work is dynamic and ever-changing because visitors are able to spin and manipulate the prisms themselves.
The experience becomes even more magical after sunset. Internal projectors illuminate the prisms, transforming the installation into a glowing field of colour and light. The nighttime display adds a completely new dimension, making Prismatica one of the most captivating light art installations currently touring the world.
A Globally Recognized Public Art Installation
Although it now attracts attention on the North Shore, Prismatica first debuted in Montréal’s Quartier des Spectacles entertainment district. Since its creation, the installation has travelled extensively and has been showcased in more than 50 cities worldwide.
Major cities that have hosted Prismatica include:
- London
- New York
- Ottawa
- Calgary
- Vancouver
Its global tour has helped it become one of the most recognized interactive public art exhibitions in recent years.
The Creative Minds Behind Prismatica
The installation was designed by RAW Design, a multidisciplinary architecture firm based in Toronto. The project was developed in collaboration with creative studios ATOMIC3 and Jean-François Piché.
Prismatica is part of a series of public artworks produced by Montréal’s Quartier des Spectacles Partnership, an organization known for creating engaging urban cultural experiences. From the beginning, the installation was designed to travel internationally, allowing cities around the world to host the immersive artwork.
The global touring program is coordinated by QDSinternational, a non-profit organization that distributes participatory public art installations and collaborates with creative partners and event organizers worldwide.
